Keep Guarded With The Best Home Security System

You won't be able to call your valued structure a home until you get the best home security system to assure you a peaceful and safe haven. Most homeowners consider security their priority in home building. For when it comes to protecting lives and properties, you can't just let luck play as it pleases. Thank the locksmiths for today's wide variety of home security systems.

The good thing about this particular aspect of home building is that setting up a protective shield for your home wouldn't require a professional's intervention at all. With just the right knowledge of what system best suits the home; novices can put their hands into the safeguarding process anytime. Home security systems are often complex enough to ward off anyone who even thinks of disturbing your well-deserved peace.

But too many security tools are made available in the market that choosing which combination you need can be very confusing. Sometimes, you couldn't figure out how one tool differs from the other in function. Thus, it is important to note that in choosing the best home security system, one must know his home structure more than anyone else - the materials used in building the house, the entry ways, and the intruder-prone areas.

The door supposedly safeguards the house. But the door just as it is can often times defeat its very purpose. Anyone who wills to break in can find all the means to do so. An aspect of the best home security system is door security. Door security tools can come in different forms such as door alarms, wedges, chains and viewers. Installing a viewer porthole will only require one to drill a hole straight through the door, so it can be very easy. For an occupied home, the chains can come into handy. For constant assurance, it would be helpful to also install door alarms to secure your home while you are away.

Window alarms have been created to suit any window design. Since burglars usually pass through where they think is less obvious, windows may be considered an intruder's favorite. Window alarms call your attention when someone who is unauthorized passes through the window, be it from inside or outside the house.

For the best home security system, do not forget to consider your lighting. Dark environments are very inviting for burglars. Here, they feel that they are safe and can stay hidden. Keep your front door and other entry points illuminated to minimize the risk of attracting thieves into your home. Infrared lighting sensors that can trigger lights outside the house may be practical and efficient defense against thieves.

If maximum protection is what you intend for your home, choose from the integrated high-end burglar alarm systems available. This security system achieves high-level security by making unauthorized home entry a very challenging task for an intruder. It also makes valuables in the home difficult or even impossible to access. Also, it makes stolen items recoverable by ensuring that a burglar can be identifiable for further investigations. A burglar alarm system provides the best home security system, an integration of door alarms, window alarms, and lighting, for an even greater assurance of safety, whether you are outside or inside your own home.

How To Find The Best Home Security Systems and Why We Need Them

If you want to protect yourself and your family, it is important to make sure that you have considered the benefits that are provided by a home security system. There are a number of different reasons why you might need a home security system and how you can go about figuring out the right one for you, but before you do that, there are a number of different things that you need to know. Though it might seem a little unnerving to be preparing for the worst, consider the fact that preparation only means that you are going to be in a good place should it happen!

The first thing that you need to think about when you are considering a home security system is the company behind it. Who is keeping an eye on your home and to what extent are they on call? You will find that the best services out there are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their monitoring centers are always on line and if the alarm is triggered, they are going to know. Essentially, when the alarm is triggered, they will call you. If there is no answer, they will dispatch the police. If you have ever been worried about punching in the wrong alarm and then being at odds with the police, don't be; this is a situation that can easily be cleared up.

When you are considering home security systems, you will find that the best ones these days are wireless systems that are then coupled with a wired alarm. No matter how large or small your home is, you'll find that this system can cover you in all eventualities. Having a wired alarm is something that can actually frighten a home breaker off. If they have only forced entry and have not had a chance to grab anything, you will find that your losses can be greatly minimized. While you still may have issues with things like broken doors or windows, it can be much better than the alternative. The truth is that the more redundant your system is, the better off you are going to be and the better protected your home is going to be.

Keep in mind that there are definitely services out there that offer more than just protection from break ins. You may also find that there are services out there that will include things like fire monitoring, carbon monoxide monitoring and even more. Something that more and more homeowners out there are realizing is the fact that their homes are, in some ways, more vulnerable than they have ever been, and this can definitely keep them up at night. What does it take to make sure that your family is as protected as you can make it, and what can you do to achieve a level of security that will let you sleep at night?

When you are considering home security systems, remember that ideally, they will never be used. However, in the event they are necessary, you will find yourself extremely pleased that you have them. T Consider what your options are and what you can do to make sure that your premises enjoy the highest level of comfort and security.

What Is The Best Home Security Systems: An Investment In Peace of Mind

Your home is your refuge, the place where you come to relax, and unwind from dealing with a stressful world. Keeping your home your refuge is a concern, and home security systems are geared to address that concern.

There are a lot of options for home security systems, ranging from burglar alarm systems (that just make a loud noise) to silent alarm and monitoring systems, such as those offered by ADT services. Even a dog is a good home security system, if he'll bark at the right people at the right time. Whichever home security system you get – from a dog to a top of the line monitored alarm system – is a matter of how much you're willing to spend and what kind of threats you expect to deal with.

The reality of home invasions is that their incidence per 100,000 people has fallen dramatically since their peak in 1992; indeed, violent crimes have been declining steadily for nearly two decades, a trend that's ascribed to everything from higher incarceration rates and "three strikes" laws to improved police procedures and increased funding mandates to put police officers on the streets, to community and neighborhood watch programs and a wider assortment of home security systems making it into the consumer market and widespread deployment.

To find the best home security system you are going to need monitoring, and filtering to eliminate false positives. A false positive is anything that triggers the alarm that isn't an actual problem; enough false positives, and the home alarm system ceases to be used, because it trains people that the alarm is always going to be false. Most motion detector car alarm systems are in this category.

Higher end home security systems use cameras, motion detectors and other sensors to provide an integrated approach to home security; these systems are able to tell if it's the cat walking on the kitchen counter setting off the motion detector and not go off rather than inundate you with false alarms. Lower end home security systems include motion detectors and alarm systems, designed to scare an intruder off. These systems also require a bit of extra wiring put into place – most of them will go off if a door or window is opened unexpectedly while they're armed. This has its advantages – they're simple to set up – and its drawbacks, say when a teenager is sneaking back into the home after being out past curfew, and waking the entire neighborhood.

An important concern with setting up the best home security system is whether or not you want immediate deterrence with a loud alarm and flashing lights, or a silent alarm system that reports to an offsite monitoring station; the former is usually less expensive. The latter results in more arrests for burglaries.

Whatever kind of home security system you get, think carefully about the cost of installation and the cost of any maintenance systems. Home alarm systems are a proven value add to the resale value of the home; most of them more than pay for their installation when a home is re-sold, and getting a professional off-site monitoring system is even likelier to do this. Think of your home security system not just as an investment in your peace of mind, but as an investment into your home as well.

Home Security

How secure are you in your home? As our world changes and crime rates rise, it is becoming more and more important to make our homes as secure as possible. But what does this really mean? Home security requires us to be vigilant and aware of our surroundings and assess the possible vulnerabilities that a criminal might try to exploit. Good home security is important because it reduces the risk of property loss and, most importantly, personal injury to yourself or others.

The first step in making sure your home is secure is to take a basic assessment of your property. Try to look at your home as a thief might. What would be the fastest or easiest way for an intruder to gain access to your home? These are the areas you will want to address. Here are some things to keep in mind as you go through this process.

Do you live in a well lighted area? Criminals will usually shy away from homes and businesses that are well lit. If you have a street light on your property, then you have adequate lighting already. If not, you might want to consider adding some lights, and possibly some that are motion sensor triggered. Try to focus on areas where there are still shadows, and particularly areas around secluded doors and windows.

Does your property have a natural barrier, such as a creek or pond? If so, this may be to your benefit, as criminals will typically seek the path of least resistance. Trees and shrubs can also work to your benefit. Many homeowners will plant thorny bushes underneath low windows, making them difficult to access from outdoors. If you don't have any natural barriers, man-made barriers are another option. If you don't already have one, consider adding a security fence to your yard.

Do you have any pets that may alert you to an intruder? Many people mistakenly think that they need a guard dog that is very vicious. This is not true, and in fact, guard dogs can be a major liability rather than an asset. If you're thinking about getting a pet for security purposes, consider a watch dog. Watch dogs are animals that aren't extremely vigilant and tend to make a lot of noise if they sense anything out of the ordinary. Terriers and other small breeds make very good watch dogs, and yet they are not particularly dangerous animals. If you are unable to own and care for a pet, consider putting a beware of dog sticker on the back windows or door. This inexpensive alternative may deter a possible intruder.

Next, you'll want to assess your home's various points of entry. How secure are your entry door locks? The standard for door security has almost always been the deadbolt. For maximum security, invest in double deadbolt entry locks, and preferably ones that are bump proof. Lock bumping is a very easy means by which criminals can enter your home, and this method of forced entry is gaining in popularity. Bump proof locks are becoming more of a standard, but if you cannot find them in a local store, try searching online or in a specialty store. When upgrading the security for your entry doors, don't neglect side and rear entrances, as these are the areas most likely to be targeted by thieves.

Lastly, you can always consider installing a home surveillance system or monitoring system. Some systems are considered do-it-yourself alarms that you can wire up to your home telephone system. If the alarm goes off, your phone will autodial the police or other emergency personnel. There are also many companies that sell home security systems and monitoring services, as well.

Remember, good home security is one of the most important investments you will ever make. When it comes to protecting your property and family, it's worth taking the time to do a home evaluation and identify areas that need improvement. With a relatively small monetary investment and some good common sense, many home break-ins can be prevented.

Securing Your Castle

In the world of today, we no longer employ the moat, drawbridge or 30 foot high walls as security devices. However, if we know the correct methods and devices to use, we can attain better security than those devices afforded.

Our first line of defense, is to be aware of our surroundings. Your neighborhood may be in an urban, or suburban area, it may be an apartment building or a gated and guarded community. Each of these environments has it's own unique challenges, but all share one common factor, there are other people living close by. If you and your neighbors are familiar to each other, this in itself is a defense against intruders. Your degree of interaction can range from complete avoidance to active participation in programs such as National Night Out or Neighborhood Watch.

The more you and your neighbors interact, the safer and more secure your neighborhood will be.

Do It Yourself Home Security Survey

Lets start with the really simple things to check. Did you have your locks rekeyed when you moved in? Do you know how many keys fit your doors, and who has them? If you answered no to either of these questions, you should contact us, for a discussion on key control and/or key control systems.

Next is your front yard, building entryway, or hallway to the apartment. If you have a front yard as you walk up to the front door, look around the area, is there excessive shrubbery that either hides the entry or provides a hiding area for someone? Does your porch light work? Does it project enough light for you to clearly see someone on your porch at night? Are your able to adequately observe the porch area from inside your home, with the door closed, using a door viewer? If you do not have a clear view of these areas, contact us to discuss the available options. A new modern door viewer may be adequate, or possibly a video door bell system or even CCTV may be needed.

Since we are now at the front door, let’s make sure it can be secured. Do you have a deadbolt lock on this door and all other exterior doors? If you do have a deadbolt lock, does the bolt project 1” from the face of the door when thrown? Does it mount to the door securely? Is it constructed of solid or stamped metal? You should also inspect the door jamb, and the strike that receives the bolt. It should be secured to the jamb with at least 3 inch screws that extend into the structural framing of the doorway. If you have glass in your door, or if there is glass adjacent to the door, you should have a “double cylinder” deadbolt. This is one that requires a key from either side to operate. Be aware that there is a fire safety issue with double cylinder dead bolt locks, when you are in the home, you should have the door locked and leave a key in the inside cylinder. There are locks available that will “trap“ a key in the inside cylinder, this key can be removed by manipulating the outside cylinder, so you can remove the key when you are away from home. Check with us for availability. You may be restricted by local building codes, or life safety codes from having double cylinder locks. If you cannot have, or do not want “double cylinder” deadbolts, you should consider having the glass in and around the door, replaced with tempered or unbreakable glass. And finally what condition is the door itself in, is the construction material sound, are the hinges secure, does it drag or bind? If the door is not in good condition, the most expensive and secure lock will not be of much use.

Next you should check all other exterior doors, they need to be as secure as the front door. If you have an attached garage, pay particular attention to the door leading into the house. If a burglar breaks into your garage, they will have a secured and hidden area in which to work, and may even use your tools to attack this door. Keeping your tools under lock and key may not be a bad idea.

We need check the security of windows and patio doors. If you need a window to be open for ventilation, be sure that the opening is small enough to keep the "bad guys" out, and that is is secured from being opened further. Often window locks do not need to be elaborate, a nail or metal pin, if properly used, may be all that is needed. Patio doors are another weak link, don't depend only on the installed lock. A tightly fitted broomstick, or other device laid in the inside track, is good insurance. But be sure that it cannot be lifted or dislodged by using a wire from the outside.

Your automatic garage door, could also be a weak link. The newer units use very good transmitter security, but some older units did not. Side doors into your garage also need to be locked.

All of these steps should be viewed as minimum starting points.

Increase Your Personal Security by Installing a Wireless Home Security System

A wireless home security system can greatly enhance the security of your home. Relatively easy to install due to their wireless nature, they are also relatively inexpensive. A wireless home security system generally consists of several key components. These include wireless door and/or window transmitters, a wireless passive IR motion detector, and a base unit, which is the "brains" of the system.

The wireless door or windows transmitters are mounted on a door or window and send a signal to the base unit if the door or window is opened. The passive IR motion detector can be mounted in a room or hallway, and is designed to detect motion by sensing body heat. They are also designed to send a signal to the base unit, this time whenever motion is sensed. These passive IR motion sensors are adjustable to prevent false triggering by indoor pets.

Whenever the base unit is armed, and receives a signal from one of the transmitters, it will go into an alarm condition. The base unit can usually be programmed for one of several responses to an alarm condition. If connected to the phone line, it can issue a silent alarm by dialing a series of pre-programmed telephone numbers until it makes contact with one, delivering a message that the alarm has been triggered. The base unit can also usually be programmed to issue an audible alarm when triggered, which is generally a 90-120dB alarm designed to bring attention to the intruder and scare them away.

While most local law enforcement entities do not accept calls directly from a home alarm system, you could have the base unit alert you or a neighbor and you or your neighbor could call the police directly. Or, by paying a small monthly fee, you could have the base unit call an alarm monitoring company, and they can alert the police to a possible intruder.

Installation of a wireless home security system is relatively easy. The door/window transmitters are two-piece devices. One piece attaches to the door or window and the other piece to the wall near the first piece when the door or window is in the closed position. The passive IR motion detector can be installed on the wall in a room or a hallway where it can achieve a good "view" of the area. The wireless transmitters are usually battery operated, so you do not need to run power wires to them.

The base unit can be mounted in a central location, where it can be connected to power and to the telephone line. It needs to be fairly close to your usual entry door, because you use a keypad on the base unit to arm and disarm the system. There is a delay period programmed into the base unit which allows you to alarm the system and leave the premises. It will ignore the movement and the door opening during the delay period. The same happens in reverse when you re-enter your home, there is a slight delay period before the alarm sounds which will allow you time to disarm the system.

If you have been considering the purchase of a home security system, consider purchasing a wireless home security system and installing it yourself. You could save a good deal over a professionally-installed system, and achieve the same results.

Why Is Home Security Becoming An Important Issue?

Obviously, home security has always been an important issue from the very beginning of time. Mankind wants to protect his home and to protect his family from any outside intruders. Over the years, crime in America has peaked and then descended for a number of reasons; however, crime has never been more prevalent in society than in a time of economic recession. If you think America has it bad, just think about third-world countries that have little or no economy to speak of. Is it any coincidence that violence in these impoverished countries is very common?

That means that in the coming years, as the recession continues, more people may be out of a job. The old expression “desperate times call for desperate measures” can apply here, as many unemployed workers may be tempted to resort to a life of crime. They may feel as if they have no options left and that stealing or even acts of violence are only way to keep surviving. This is not an evil mentality but a desperate one; an animalistic instinct that can motivate man to do amazing or shameful things.

What can you do about the prevalence of crime now, not to mention the increase in crime that’s very possible into the next decade? The best protection available is through home security protection. Home security protection offers many advanced features that can help you stay safe and get help right away in the event of a burglary or attack. What are some of the most important features that home security systems offer?

For starters, there is the home security monitoring system. Make no mistake about it—without this option, all you have is a glorified alarm system that chirps when there’s danger. What’s special about a home security system with a monitoring system is that whenever an emergency signal is sent, you are immediately connected to home technicians who are monitoring your home for safety. (Don’t worry, they’re not literally conducting surveillance; rather, they are monitoring all of your installed sensors to detect any movement or breaking) These technicians are located in a central building, one of several that are all interconnected for the best quality of connection.

Another important feature is that of a remote control keychain. This allows you full control over the system from any location in the house. You can turn your system on and off whenever you want. More importantly, you can also use a manual panic button if the situation merits it. For example, what if you or a family member were to let a stranger in the house? The stranger seems friendly at first but then gets ideas in his head about the opportunity he has to rob the residence. All the home owner has to do is click the manual panic button and the command center is notified.

These are the two most important features to look for when trying to decide on a home security system. For more information about pricing, features and operation look up home security systems online. You can protect your family and property even in the roughest of times!

Home Security In Rural Areas

If you watch the evening news or read the newspaper, you might think that all of the crimes committed in the nation happen in the cities. However, even if you live in a rural area, you are still quite capable of becoming a target for a criminal. No matter where you live, you will want to make sure that you have the best home security that you can afford. Fortunately, a home security system is affordable, and you can do other things to make sure that you increase the security around your home in the country.

The very first thing that you should do is have a professionally installed home security system placed in your home. These systems are the best defense you have against potential predators who want to steal your belongings or do you harm. You can have the house monitored 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. In fact, you can have the company monitor for more than just trespassers. Some security companies will also offer monitoring for fire, flood, freezing, and carbon monoxide levels. The more you can do to improve the security of your house the better off you will be.

Of course, you shouldn't stop with just the installation of the alarm system. You also need to make sure that the rest of the security measures are up to par. This means that you will have to do a little footwork. Take a walk around your house and make sure that all of the locks are in good working order. This includes the locks on the windows, something that many people overlook when they are looking for chinks in their home's security. If you have a garage, a barn, or any other outbuildings as many people in rural areas do, then you will want to check the locks on these places as well.

Make sure that the lighting is sufficient as well. Some rural homes are miles away from the nearest neighbor and at night, the inky darkness can provide places for thieves to hide. The more lighting you have the fewer places a criminal will be able to conceal him or herself. Since you probably don't want to spend money on an outrageously high electricity bill, you should get some motion sensor lights. These lights only activate when something crosses into their area. You will get all the lighting that you need, but you won't have to get a second job to pay for the electricity!

Another thing that you should do, especially when you live in a rural area, is use your senses. Look for things that seem out of place, listen for sounds in the night that aren't part of the natural order, and if you have a bad feeling that something just isn't right, then you should trust your instinct. People developed these instincts to keep them safe; listen to them.

With a little preparation and a great home security system, you will be able to have the safe and secure country home that you desire.

Get A Security System To Protect Your Home From Burglary

Burglary is the most common crime that threatens homes in the United States and it would be wise to find a reliable security system to protect your home in Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg. After all, the FBI reports that a burglary is committed every 15.4 minutes in the US.

Although burglary is a crime that is committed when there is no one home, it’s being non-confrontational does not make it any less traumatic for the family. The feeling of violation is the same and family members are left anxious all the time. Would you risk leaving your family home

Burglars usually take small expensive items that they can convert to cash very easily. Among these are cash, of course, and jewelry, watches and smaller electronic gadgets such as laptops, notebooks, video cameras, DVD players and the like.

Homes that happen to have some cover and good escape routes are preferred by these burglars. Most of them enter a home with some amount of force, using small pry bars, hammers, channel-lock pliers and screwdrivers. They first try to find unlocked doors or windows, of course. The most common points of entry are the front door, back door and garage door. The back door and garage door are often the weakest points in a home’s security and also provide the most cover.

Windows are also often inadvertently left open or unlocked at home. Burglars have sharp eyes for open windows. Ground floor windows are very accessible to them. Upper storey windows are vulnerable points of entry, too, if accessible by a stairway, fire escape, fence, tree or a low balcony.

Lights could also be major factors that could invite burglars. A home that is dark from sundown onwards is obviously empty. So is a home that has porch or garage lights on all day.

Programmable light timers could be used to fool burglars to think that the house is occupied. Outdoor lights should be programmed to turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn. Indoor lights should be programmed to turn on and off in certain rooms at certain times at night in the same way you would turn them on and off if the family were home. The television or radio could be programmed in the same way to complete the illusion.

Outside lighting should be bright enough for any lurkers to be exposed. Remember, burglars don’t want to be seen.

Good lighting and timer systems are not enough to deter burglars and prevent burglary, though. Find a reliable security system that can give you digital surveillance cameras and recorders for round the clock video surveillance of your premises and surroundings. It would be even better if you find one that provides real time remote viewing of the surveillance camera output from any PC, laptop or notebook anywhere in the world by internet.

Surveillance should be matched with access control in all entrances, as well as sensors, motion detectors, glass break detectors and alarms on all doors and windows.

Make sure that all these are connected to a 24-hour emergency response system that is also connected to the police. A good residential security system should protect not just against burglaries but against other dangers, as well, such as fire.

Reliable companies that provide residential security systems usually provide commercial security systems in Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg, as well. Ask for references and check whether they are trusted by other well-established companies like, for example, the Anytime Fitness franchise, for their security needs. You would want to be very sure about the security system you choose for your own family’s protection.

How To Shop For The Best Home Security System For You

There are many choices when it comes to security for your family and your possessions. Regardless of the system that you choose, you should be looking for a system that will give you the peace of mind, safety and security that your family deserves. Consider the following points when shopping around for the best burglar system.

First, do a safety inspection of your property and your house to see which areas you need secure. This will include doors, windows, garage doors, basements, and skylights. Consider any easy access an intruder would have such as adjacent trees, fences, etc. that could allow them to gain entry to your home easily. Also, bushy landscaping gives a burglar cover and a hiding space.

Second, a security system usually has a variety of components like speakers, a control pad and/or computer, sensors, warning lights and connections that pull the whole system together. Popular on the market today, are two types of systems – hardwired and wireless. Only a professional security system installer should put in a hardwired system because they are quite complex and involve many connections and wiring. Wireless systems are less complex and don’t include cords and wires linking the system together. While the wireless systems are easier to install, they are less reliable because the signal can be blocked, or an intruder can interfere with it, rendering it useless.

The motion sensors on a home burglar system pick up any type of movement in the yard or home. When there is a movement picked up, an alarm sounds, the central monitoring station is electronically contacted, and the police are called. It’s important to have the motion detectors calibrated properly so that outside movements that are okay, like birds, animals, even strong breezes, don’t set off the alarm.

There are also heat-sensitive sensors that can sense changes in temperature that are sudden – the type of heat changed caused by an intruder’s body heat or a newly started fire.

The lighting used by security systems is used at night to illuminate when a person’s presence is detected on the property. The purpose is to frighten the intruder and make him go away. Avoid using a too-high-wattage bulb because the motion detector’s bright light could be annoying to those that live near you (or yourself!)

The video systems are used to monitor what’s going on at the property and in the home. The cameras can either be obvious or concealed, depending on your approach. If they are out in the open, you might have the cameras destroyed by a potential burglar. Hidden cameras take away the fear factor of the presence of a security alarm system; however, you can capture intruders on tape. This means that the footage could be helpful to police during an investigation. Some people use cameras that aren’t real as decoys and place them in prominently obvious locations to deter break-ins.

Another option is to use panic buttons strategically placed around your home so that you can immediately contact the security system’s monitoring center in case of a true emergency. This will give you a direct link to their 24 service, where they will contact the police, fire, or ambulance, depending on your emergency.

Importance Of Home Security

We go through life thinking that we are safe, despite what the news is trying to tell us. The number of crimes is increasing, yet most of us still leave our windows open at night. as if daring someone to bother us. Yet we no longer bother to get to know our neighbors, and an alarm system is considered out of most of our budgets.

Without some form of security system we leave ourselves vulnerable to loss of property and personal injury. The locks that come on most windows and doors, when we remember to lock them, are designed to keep those that wouldn’t steal from us with the door left wide open honest. We leave our windows open to let the air in and fall asleep.

What’s between the open window and us? A wire screen to keep flies out is what’s between the open window and us. It takes less than a minute to cut into a window screen with a good knife or pair of shears. That’s if they are in good condition, but if they are old and worn out they are no defense to the outside world at all.

Even a closed window is an easy entry point for a burglar when it isn’t locked. It takes a minute to get rid of the screen, and even if the window won’t open it’ll break with a fist or other object hitting it. Without something in place to prevent the opening of the window it’s an easy access point, and unless we hear it break we are helpless to find safety, or get help.

An alarm sounding in the middle of the night would wake us and our neighbors. We would also get some form of assistance from the law enforcement. As long as there isn’t a false alarm when the system goes off the police are called, when the system is monitored by a security company.

Burglaries occur when homeowners are away, or when they should be sleeping, since both of these present an easy opportunity. Sleeping occupants of a home pose no threat to an intruder, but they do make easy targets for intruders in the home however. Families want to feel safe in their own homes so they leave widows open to prove the neighborhood is safe.

Unless you have a large security fence around the home, the windows should at least be closed when you are away. Checking the locks on the windows to ensure they are working properly will at least slow down an intruder. Installing a decent lock however only solves the problem of having the window opened from the inside by preventing movement, and reduces the chances of having the lock broken.

Do you leave a hide-a-key in the yard in case you don’t have yours? While it isn’t likely a burglar is going to search for the key they might. The reason home security is so important is that burglars don’t just target homes in wealthy neighborhoods but will target any home that presents an opportunity.

Home Security – Best Help And Advice

Is home security important? Well, if you have already been burgled then you know the answer to that. So many people think that home security is something they must do, but don’t really get around to doing anything about it. By not taking action and addressing your home security weaknesses you are running a big risk. TV’s, hi-fi’s and games machines can easily be replaced but can you really afford to lose all of your personal possessions, precious heirlooms and sentimental items of value and importance? The following are the many ways that you can improve your home security and give peace of mind that your home is properly protected.

Burglar Alarm Systems
This should be the first home improvement you must make if you want to increase your home security. Alarm systems generally consist of a control panel, siren and a variety of sensors to trigger a burglar intrusion. There is a choice of hard wired or wireless type systems. Wireless systems are a very popular choice as they are cheap and easy to install although sensors require a regular battery change. Technology has improved somewhat and they are less prone to false alerts nowadays. Hard wired systems are generally more permanent and more stable and used in professional installations. They have higher install costs and there will be a lot of disruption during installation.

Monitored Home Security
Monitored home security is when your home burglar alarm system is connected to a alarm monitoring company and their job is to watch over your home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your alarm is triggered they will send out help to assist with your emergency, be it police, fire or ambulance. They will charge a small monthly fee but you may find that by having monitored home security your insurance premium may drop – thus offsetting the monitoring costs.

Security Cameras
Closed Circuit Television or CCTV is a popular method to visually and sometimes audibly, monitor and record activity directly outside your property. There are simple, inexpensive systems that simply send a signal to your TV or a monitor for you to view. Or there are more sophisticated systems that can record images and video digitally from many security cameras that may be monitoring your property. The digital images can sometimes be viewed remotely, all around the world via the internet. There are many choices of camera. Again, security cameras can be both hard wired and wireless, color or black and white and some even operate in the dark via infrared.

External Security Lighting
External security lighting is one of the cheapest - yet effective - home security improvements you can make. The burglar does not want to be seen when breaking into a property so external lighting will be sure to put him off. It is recommended to buy the security lighting with an attached PIR motion sensor this will switch on immediately when movement is detected.

Deadbolts Locks For Securing Doors
Deadbolt locks provide an additional security obstacle for your external doors and will make it nigh on impossible for the burglar to get into your property via the protected door. These days biometrics are becoming popular offering keyless locks with gadgets such as fingerprint readers to allow the door to be opened.

Driveway Monitors
A driveway monitor will detect the entry of someone onto your land giving you an early warning of someone’s presence. It could be an expected visitor, friend or neighbour, but it could equally be an unwanted intruder.

Security Window Bars
Security window bars provide both a visual and physical deterrent to a burglar making them think twice about breaking into a property. A burglar does not want to draw attention to himself when breaking into a property and also wants to be very quick to enter the property. By installing window bars you will slow him down and he will create noise when trying to remove the window bars. This should be enough for him to move on, even before he has attempted a break-in.

These are just a few of the many ways to prevent to burglar entering your property and making off with your property and valuables.

Burglar Alarms – The Essential Home Security

There are many different approaches that can be taken to improve your home security. There is a choice a whole range of security devices available such as CCTV systems - external and internal camera systems, external security lighting, securing windows and door locks, exterior motion-sensors, driveway gates, security window bars and even security yards signs. But of all security products available, a burglar alarm system is the most common and effective intruder prevention method that you can buy.

Although the above devices should be used to complement a burglar alarm, when improving your home security, an alarm system is the first protective measure that you should install. So why install a burglar alarm?

When an intruder decides to burgle a house, he wants minimum obstacles. He wants to get in and out of the house as quickly as possible – in minutes. He also does not want the fact advertised that he is actually breaking into the house in the first place. It’s kind of obvious that the detection of him breaking in and setting off a loud, audible siren is not desirable to him and he will simply pass up on the idea and find a better opportunity elsewhere.

So many people do not think seriously about their home security and assume it will never happen to them. It is a pity that so many people wait until they are burgled before they get a security alarm system. Don’t be the next victim of the burglar and take action now to install a burglar alarm. It could be the best investment you make all year.

Introduction to New Age Home Security from Northstar Alarm

Home Security is a high priority element in everyone’s life. Today, there are a number of home security products available. These ensure not only the safety of the family, but also the valued possessions and belongings. Home security is as important for an independent house owner as for an apartment owner. People are nowadays looking for security options that can alert the nearest police station even before they get to know about the burglary. This is especially useful for people who travel a lot and have to stay away from home. To stop worrying about the safety of one’s home, it is best to install any of the new age security systems. This ensures peace of mind as well as security to the belongings. Thus, home security is the best way to ensure home safety.

People are less at risk if there is someone full-time at home. But again, an isolated place may not always be safe. If the house owner or the inhabitants have to go on a business or pleasure trip, then the security solution kicks into action. A good home security solution is rather very important even if you have police, fire department, etc. at a close availability.

It is seen that people often neglect the importance of home security systems and install cheap (if any at all) solutions just for the sake of it. Though a monitoring system with lots of bells and whistles would help, the best option as mentioned earlier would be to start a neighborhood watch program where the alarms are connected to the nearest police station. This ensures a quick and useful response.

Upgrade your old alarm to meet the new need. Infrared sensors and motion sensors are also available nowadays. These can be especially useful when you have to be away for weeks or days altogether. These are not so costly either. Anyone who approaches the sensor uninvited can trigger an alarm. The best part is – the intruder might not even know that he has been tracked until he hears the police siren!

New Options for Upgrading Your Home Security System

So you have had a functioning home security system in place for several years now and it all still works great. However, what you may not be aware of is the many new developments that have taken place since then that make your home security system better and far more convenient to operate.

Tired of having to punch in a code every time that you want to activate or deactivate your system? Why not switch to a newer control panel that functions just like a car alarm. In fact, you can even carry the little gadget that operates it on your key chain as well.

Also, new control panels are capable of so much more then they used to be. For instance, it will log the time and day that each person in your home or business has entered or left. Also, you can now call newer systems from your cell phone to see who has arrived and who hasn't.

CCTV or closed circuit television is also now easier and cheaper to install then ever before. Newer far less intrusive cameras can be screwed to a wall in minutes and come at a fraction of the cost that they did only a few years ago.

Or if you don't want anyone to see your CCTV cameras at all thats not a problem either now. New miniaturized cameras come disguised as any one of a number of common household fixtures. What looks like a simple electrical plug on the wall of your front porch can now be a camera for far less than you might imagine.

Also, forget about cumbersome and time consuming video tapes and tape machines. They have already been replaced by DVD and digital memory technology. Also, no need to spend time searching for images because motion sensors in the cameras themselves can turn the system on and off as needed.

Does Your Alarm System Fit Your Needs?

Perhaps you have bought or rented a home or business venue that already has an alarm system in place, so you feel secure. However; have you taken the time to check your system out to see if it is truly adequate for your needs?

The truth, is that what have been the very latest technology just ten years ago has now been surpassed by new developments in the alarm system industry. What this means is that you most likely can simply add on to your system and bring it up to date for very little cost.

One new area that has seen amazing new technological developments is video alarm system components. To start with, the video tape recorder has been completely replaced by a DVD recorder. It holds far more time and there is no longer a need to view a complete tape to look for footage.

Also, new video camera systems even have the ability to detect movement, which has allowed for numerous new function options. For instance, now you can even receive an email or phone call from your alarm system if a camera has detected movement in its surveillance area.

Simply get on your computer or cell phone, contact your system and you can have a look at what your system has seen or is seeing. What this also means is that todays technological developments have allowed the alarm system industry to produce electronic systems that as close a replacement for on site security personnel as there has ever been.

Of course, much of this newly developed technology does come at an added price. However; what many people don't know is that at the same time “basic” alarm systems have simultaneously become far more secure and much more affordable as well.

Going on Vacation? Secure Your Home with Northstar

Secure your home while you’re away and you will be thankful you did! There are a number of home security systems available today. Home security and fire safety are two things you should always discuss when moving into a new home or opening a new business. Fire safety is a number one issue that is rarely discussed in the home or office, so it is important that you and family or employees discuss how to exit the home/office in the event of an emergency.

Getting a security alarm system is very beneficial to keeping your family/office protected from thefts. Security alarm systems are very advanced and can be connected to your local police and fire stations. If the alarm is tripped, the police/fire station will be contacted and will call your home to make sure everything is ok. If you do not respond, they will send over officers/firemen to investigate the situation. This type of alarm system is wonderful and can make your family feel extremely safe. It is important to note that security alarms that function in this manner usually cost an extra fee to have the police or fire station to respond. But isn’t it worth it to have your family or business safe from theft or fire?

If you have a large home or business, investing in a security surveillance system is ideal. Security surveillance systems can be wired the same way as a regular alarm, yet also include video panels so that you can keep watch over every inch of your home or business. The ability to watch over your entire home or business is a great tool and an even better investment. But only purchase something of this magnitude if you have an extremely large home or business where there can be many parts that are unseen on a daily basis.
